Name: | Morty Waldeburg | Reaper I |
---|---|
Birthdate: | Oct 31 |

When the population of Earth climbs so high that souls of the dead start running free because Death is plain overworked, they form reapers from their own energy to pick up the slack. Eldritch abominations in their true forms, but capable of taking on human form to guide their charges more peacefully out of this life and toward the next, these reapers are largely shaped by their individual experiences because they were only given knowledge before they arrived on Earth; elements such as personality, interests, tastes, were not important enough to prescribe with the clock already ticking. Morty is the first reaper who touched down on Earth, and it shows in his nature - he's had the time to grow relaxed and confident, sure of himself in his job if not always with humankind. Even the black hoodie he almost always wears with the hood up is a silly joke, a reference to the cloaked Grim Reaper of human legend, and - well, the name Morty Waldeburg itself is a screaming hint to anyone who would want to dig deeper. He's altogether too playful to have any genuine worry about being caught. Although he doesn't actually partake in any human vices other than cigarettes, one could not be blamed for wondering if he might have smoked a bit too much of the Mary Jane in his "life." Morty has also been doing this for long enough that he's developed a bit of a game he likes to play with his charges: he allows everyone to make a single appeal for prolonging their life, on the spot, and any person who offers an argument that he enjoys at that moment will be given an extra month to prepare for their death. There's no pattern to how he chooses, and it's hard to say if this is a gift or a cruel way of toying with humanity, but it breaks up the monotony. There's nothing hiding him from the average human when he's out and about between jobs, so people could see him anywhere at all, not just at the moment of their death. He's a nice enough guy, if a bit irreverent and lazy. |
